Unveiling the Importance of Vitamin D Supplements

The health benefits have been known for ages, the benefits that the ancient Egyptians felt the sun could actually bring about healing and preservation of life. Modern studies showed that UV light from the sun produces vitamin D in our bodies. Well, labeled as the “sunshine vitamin,” it goes without reason that it is important for more than a tan and a nice summer day. Actually, vitamin D is essential to human health since it performs a number of functions. Vitamin D enables the body to absorb calcium and to form bones, but it is involved in many other functions. It boosts the immune system and protects against infections and chronic diseases.

Beyond Bone Health Superstar

Chemicals such as calcium and phosphorus construct bones.  Vitamin D choreographs their beautiful dance. A deficiency in Vitamin D supplement also affects the body’s ability to absorb calcium. This may cause bones to be fragile and easily broken. This is a real concern for young people whose bones are growing rapidly and older people whose bones are more susceptible to osteoporosis. But vitamin D does much more than affect bones. Vitamin D is a protective vitamin. In its active form, the vitamin guards very powerfully the components of the body’s so-called immune cells; the body’s major defence hinges against viruses and germs.

Chronic disease preventive benefits

Some studies state that there is evidence for a reduction in risk for breast and bowel cancer due to low levels of vitamin D. Risk for heart disease is increased by vitamin D deficiency, studies say. How exactly it does it is under study, but vitamin D may decrease blood pressure and inflammation, which leads to heart disease. Recent research has demonstrated that vitamin D can also help diabetes. There are vitamin D receptors within the beta cells. Activation of it could reduce the blood sugar by increasing or at least enhancing the actions of insulin. Again, let me remind you what I have said above: these are just probable connections.

Correcting Deficits

Immunity and risk of chronic diseases are likewise boosted by taking Vitamin D. Reduced levels of Vitamin D supplements are associated with current lifestyles that are oriented towards indoor living and avoiding sunshine exposure. That isn’t necessarily a lost battle, though.  Vitamin D from fatty fish, from egg yolk, and from safe exposure of the body in the sun can maintain the status of the vitamin. These may not be very adequate. Vitamin D pills are entirely safe options to restore and maintain the health of the scenarios. Advice from a doctor is recommended before taking this action.
